Jaya Gupta (b.1998) is a hyper-realist charcoal artist, specializing in large-scale portraiture. Her detailed and dramatic drawings give stories to faces from around the globe - all radiating with emotion and power. Based in Dallas, TX, she received a Bachelor of Science from Boston University. She is currently working on her Master's in Design Management from Georgetown University while also working at Capital One as a User Experience Designer.

Artist Statement

A couple of years ago I found my life moving faster than I could keep up with. As it spiraled out of control I found solace in my drawings-the one place I could be a perfectionist- in control of every inch of the space. Drawing portraits have become my favorite storytelling medium, hiding secrets and memories through intricate details of the human face.
