Raja
(Sold) 28 x 28in. charcoal on paper
I remember growing up with stacks of my dad’s National Geographic magazines scattered around the house. One day I found myself flipping through an old edition and there he was in a vibrant photograph. Raja practically jumped off the page with his fierce mustache and red turban tinted by the sunset. After seeing his photo I felt compelled to capture his beauty and thoughtful eyes. The portrait of Raja is especially sentimental to me because it is the very first portrait I ever drew. He is also the piece that influenced me to invent my own stories of people around the world and launch this collection.
